El Intergrupo "Paz para el pueblo Saharaui" del Parlamento Europeo se ha reunido hoy en Bruselas, bajo la presidencia de la eurodiputada socialista alemana Margot Kessler.

Durante la reunión, los eurodiputados han sido informados por Margot Kessler de los intensos debates durante los últimos dias en el Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU y asimismo han recibido a los miembros de la "Plataforma de Mujeres contra la violencia" en visita en Bruselas y a Mohamed Sidati, Ministro Delegado para Europa del Frente Polisario.

Respecto al rechazo marroquí al denominado "Plan para la autodeterminación del pueblo del Sáhara Occidental" o "Plan Baker II", la eurodiputada del SPD alemán ha expresado su apoyo al análisis de la ONU y afirmó que éste plan es "una salida inteligente, viable, pacífica y equilibrada al contencioso territorial entre Marruecos y el Frente Polisario desde 1975". Asimismo, expresó que "Marruecos tiene que aceptar el Plan Baker II, el cual representa una condición de posibilidad histórica para el respeto del Derecho Internacional y una salida digna y rápida para la necesaria prosperidad de todos los pueblos que forman la Unión del Magreb Arabe."

Finalmente, la eurodiputada alemana realizó un llamamiento a las nuevas autoridades españolas para que muestren un apoyo explícito y sin ambigüedades al Plan Baker II, el cual fue elaborado con la contribución activa de la diplomacia española. "Se ha pedido al Frente Polisario que aceptase el Plan Baker II para, en menos de un año tirar este Plan de paz a la papelera?". "Este aparente comportamiento diplomático del nuevo gobierno de España no es comprensible ni de recibo para contribuir a una solución europea y seria al conflicto, más bien responde al interés permanente de Francia por esconder el dossier de descolonización del Sahara bajo una falsa y aparente normalidad de la diaria ocupación militar del Territorio No Autonomo".

The European Parliament Intergroup "Peace for the saharawi people" met today in Brussels under the presidency of the German socialist Member of the European Parliament Margot Kessler.

During the meeting, the Members of the European Parliament have been informed by Margot Kessler of the last debates during this week in the UN Security Council and they also received the members of the Spanish "Platform of artist women against violence" who is visiting Brussels and Mr Mohamed Sidati, Minister Delegate for Europe from the Frente Polisario.

Concerning the Moroccan refusal of the "Peace plan for the self-determination of the people of Western Sahara" or "Baker Plan II", the German SPD member of the European Parliament expressed her support to the UN analysis to the problem and said that "this plan is an intelligent, viable, peaceful and balanced solution to the territorial conflict between Morocco and the Polisario Front since 1975"

Indeed, she expressed that "Morocco must accept the Baker Plan II, which represents a historic condition of possibility for the respect of International Law and a rapid and worthy solution for the need of prosperity of all the peoples who belong to the Arab Maghreb Union"

Finally, the German member of the European Parliament made an appeal to the new Spanish government to show an explicit and unambiguous support to the Baker Plan II, which was made with the active contribution of Spanish diplomacy. "They asked the Polisario Front to accept the Baker Plan II for, in less than a year drop this Peace plan to the paper bin?". "This kind of apparent diplomatic behaviour of the new Spanish government is difficult to understand and to contribute for a serious European solution for the conflict, it seems more to respond to the French wish to hide the decolonization file of the Sahara under a false and apparent normal military occupation of this Non Self-Governing Territory" Kessler added.
