As Young European Socialists we strongly condemn and regret the violations of human rights in the occupied territories of Western Sahara exercised by the military Moroccan forces. To us it is unacceptable that these territories are not open to the NGOs, international observers and the international press.

We want the UN to take its responsibility by carrying out the referendum stated in the settlement plan from 1989. This plan, signed by both Polisario and the Moroccan government, states that the Saharawi people have the right to decide upon their future.

For us Young European Socialists any other solution than a referendum is out of the question, which means that we reject the third way, where Western Sahara still would remain under Moroccan rule with some autonomy. The European Union has to be a force pushing the process forward and setting a date for a new referendum in accordance with the Houston agreement.

We also protest strongly against the fishing treaties made between the EU and Morocco that include fishing from harbours in Western Sahara. This treaty is violating international law. On the contrary EU should put economical and political pressure upon Morocco until they agreed on a date for a referendum and accept the UN proposal for a list of electorates.

Como jovenes socialistas europeos condenamos y lamentamos fuertemente las violaciones de derechos humanos en los territorios ocupados del Sáhara occidental ejercidas por las fuerzas militares marroquíes .

Para nosotros es inaceptable que estos territorios no están abiertos a las ONGs, a los observadores internacionales y a la prensa internacional. Quisiéramos que la O.N.U tomara su responsabilidad realizando el referéndum indicado en el plan de paz de 1989. Este plan, firmado por el Polisario y el gobierno marroquí, indicando que el pueblo Saharawi tiene el derecho de decidir sobre su futuro.

Para nosotros los jóvenes socialistas europeos cualquier otra solución que no sea un referéndum es inadmisible, lo que significa que rechazamos la tercera via que plantea cierta autonomía del Sáhara occidental dentro de Marruecos. La unión europea tiene que imponer con fuerza el adelanto del proceso y fijar una fecha para un nuevo referéndum acorde con el acuerdo de Houston.

También protestamos fuertemente contra los tratados de pesca hechos entre la UE y Marruecos que incluyen la pesca en aguas y puertos del Sáhara occidental. Este tratado está violando el derecho internacional.

Por lo contrario la UE debe ejercer la presión económica y política sobre Marruecos hasta que convenga una fecha para un referéndum y acepte la oferta de la O.N.U en cuanto a la lista del electorado.
