Ali Salem Tamek has disappeared

Ali Salem Tamek, the Sahrawi human rights activist and former prisoner of conscience, is uncounted for since Monday, July 18, 2005. He was abducted by the Moroccan authorities at the airport of El Ayun while coming from Las Palmas, the Canary Islands at a Top Fly aeroplane at about 17:30.

While asking about Ali Salem Tamek in the Judicial Police center and in the central police station in El Ayun in Smara street, his aunt and cousin were informed that Ali Salem is not there and they do not know where he is. Tamek's relatives were cruelly treated and shouted at by the police agents.

The family of Tamek was not even informed by their son's abduction until they heard it on the media. No telephone contact is possible with Ali Salem Tamek up to now.

It is worth-mentioning that Amed Hammia, a human rights activist and son of a still-disappeared father, was kidnapped this morning in Dakhla, Western Sahara, by 4 secret police agents in land rover in Hay Oum Tounsi disctrict where he lives. He was interrogated by Hariz Larbi, the Wali of security in Dakhla.

The Sahrawi HR activists are now subject to fierce Moroccan attack (intimidation, harassment, abduction, arrests, property confiscation…) especially in El Ayun, Dakhla (Occupied Territories) and Assa (south Morocco). [local corr.]
