El intergrupo "Paz para el pueblo saharaui" se reunió ayer miércoles en Estrasburgo bajo la presidencia de la eurodiputada alemana Margot Kessler. El intergrupo siguió con atención los acontecimientos relativos a la gira del enviado personal del Secretario General de la ONU para el Sáhara Occidental, James Baker y a las discusiones que tendrán lugar en Nueva York antes de final de mes.
En el ámbito de los Derechos Humanos, los diputados mostraron su grave preocupación por la situación de los prisioneros políticos saharauis en cárceles marroquíes y por el desarrollo de las acciones de protesta de los mismos (huelgas de hambre, sentadas, visitas de activistas a los presos, etc).
Asimismo, los eurodiputados miembros del intergrupo tomaron nota con satisfaccion de la posición del gobierno español con respecto al conflicto y enfatizaron su apoyo al plan de paz para la organización sin demora del referendum en el Sáhara.
Finalmente, la presidenta del Intergrupo y la eurodiputada francesa Yasmine Boudjenah anunciaron su participación en el seminario organizado por la Asociación Francesa de amigos de la RASD, y que tendrá lugar en la Asamblea Nacional francesa el próximo 28 de enero.

The intergroup "Peace for the saharawi people" met yesterday Wednesday in Strasbourg under the presidency of the German Member of the European Parliament Margot Kessler. The intergroup followed carefully the events relating to the visit of the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General for the Western Sahara, James Baker and to the discussions that will take place in New York before the end of this month.
In the Human rights area, the Members of Parliament showed their serious preoccupation for the situation of the saharawi political prisoners in Moroccan jails and for the development of the actions of protest of the latter (hunger strikes, sit-ins, visits of activists to the prisoners, etc).
Likewise, the member Members of the European Parliament of the intergroup noted with satisfaction the position of the Spanish government with respect to the conflict and emphasised its support for the peace plan for the organisation without delay of the referendum in the former Spanish Sahara.
Finally, the president of the Intergroup and the French Member of the European Parliament Yasmine Boudjenah announced its participation in the hearing organised by the French Association of friends of the SADR, and that will take place in the French National Assembly the next 28 January.
