MINURSO financing

The General Assembly authorised the Secretary-General to commit approximately 10 million $ to finance the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).

Tanzanian foreign minister's visit to Algeria

Tanzania has expressed its support for the full implementation of the UN peace plan for setting the issue of the Western Sahara.

Human rights

The African Human and People Rights League, in an appeal to the U.N. asks for an urgent international action in favor of human rights in Africa, especially Western Sahara, Burundi and Somalia. It declares that it is politically, legally, morally and humanly inconceivable that the U.N. are still not able to realize a referendum in W.S.

Ceuta and Melilla

The Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister A. Filali declares at the 51th Assembly of the U.N. that the recuperation of the cities of Ceuta and Melila, belonging officially to Spain, will take place by negociations. King Hassan asks for a Spanish-Moroccan committee in charge to resolve this problem. In his answer the Spanish ambassador to the U.N. reaffirms that the two territories belong to Spain.

Meetings between Spain and SADR

The Spanish Foreign Minister Abel Matutes meet at New York Salem Ould Salek, Minister at the Presidency of SADR, who informs him about the recent meetings with the Moroccan government. The Sahrawi responsible exprimes the wish of the Sahrawis to pursuie the speaks with Morocco, adding that the delay of the referendum creates an increasing frustration among the Sahrawi population.

Spanish Foreign Minister to meet Sahrawi leader

Abel Matutes reveals that he will soon meet the Sahrawi president and secretary-general of the Polisario Front, Mohamed Abdelaziz (Algerian radio).

Algerian intervention

The Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs declares at the UN General Assembly that his country will continue to support the UN-OUA peace plan in order to get to the Sahrawi people its right of selfdetermination in a fair and free referendum. He appeals the two parties to go ahead with a constructive and responsible dialogue.

Spain wants referendum

In his declaration at the U.N. General Assembly, the Foreign Minster of Spain repeats thatSpain is worry about the delay of the referendum but glad about the recent contacts between Morocco and the Polisario, and wishes the continuation of the operation of self-determination as soon as possible and in the best conditions, under the supervision of the UN.
